Savannah Achieves All-Time Record in October
Savannah, Ga. - The Port of Savannah moved more container cargo in October than any other month in its history, with 413,800 twenty-foot equivalent container units crossing its docks. Containerized trade at the Port of Savannah has increased by 8 percent for the fiscal year to date (July-Oct. 2018), totaling 1.53 million TEUs – up 113,000 compared to the same period last year.
Savannah TEU Volume Reaches 4.2 million in FY18
Savannah, Ga. - The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) handled a record 4.2 million twenty-foot equivalent container units in Fiscal Year 2018 (July '17 - June '18), for an impressive 8.4% increase year-over-year, or 325,000 additional units.
"Moving more than 4 million TEUs in a single fiscal year is an important milestone for Georgia," said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch. "Georgia's logistical advantages, along with the Southeast's population growth, have resulted in increased demand, while the expanded Panama Canal has cleared the way for larger vessels to call Savannah."
Busy July Boosts GPA Container Trade 12.7%
SAVANNAH, Ga., Aug. 13, 2018 – The Georgia Ports Authority moved 378,767 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUS) in July, an increase of 12.7 percent, or 42,668 TEUs, compared to the same month last year. It was the second busiest month on record for the Port of Savannah.
“July was an incredible start to our fiscal year, with double-digit growth across our container, breakbulk and dry bulk operations,” said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch.
Georgia's New Inland Terminal Open for Business
CHATSWORTH, Ga., Aug. 22, 2018- Gov. Nathan Deal, state officials and more than 350 business and civic leaders were on hand today to officially open the Appalachian Regional Port (ARP) in Northwest Georgia.
"The Appalachian Regional Port is a powerful new gateway to the Port of Savannah that extends the efficiencies of Georgia's superior port operations to new markets," Deal said. "It will also serve as an economic development magnet, drawing business and industry to the Southeast U.S."
